VW Bug Show 2016 Spa, Belgium

by james309 » Sat Jan 23, 2016 9:59 pm
I'm planning to go to Spa on 6/7 August 2016 and thought I'd ask for those who have been before, do you have any recommendations for time taken to get there at a steady split pace !
When is it best to arrive ?
Anyone also going ?

Thanks

James

Been there all ready 7-8 times or so.
For me it takes about 3 houres with my beetle,i live in Belgium.
Think i will be going again this year, but not with the bus as it is not ready yet.
There are several camping areas around the track, the show itself is in the paddock of the track.

Hi we went for the first time last year but had a week long holiday traveling through France arriving at spa at about 2.30 pm on the Friday, it was already very full and busy in the main camping area but after about a 2 hour wait for booking in we were free to find some camping space but there was very little down by the track and all very manic with loads going on all the time but we drove back up the hill to the field campsite which is still part of the event where we we were happy to find lots of nice camping and a lot quieter it is then a ten minute walk down to the circuit .
On our return journey on the sunday we stayed at a guest house in belguim for one night before arriving back at the tunnel somewhat liesurely on the Monday, the weather was very hot the whole time we were there and wouldn't like to have pushed our bus too hard for too long racing back to the tunnel that said it was by far the best event we have attented

Thanks everyone for the responses. I assume for anyone that's gone from the UK goes in the Chunnel, if so what ticket is suitable for a bus ?

We just book as a car with the appropriate height and length option.

Motorhomes are way bigger so cost more.

Went to spa last year weather was great, which always makes for a good show. It's got to be one of the best shows in Europe. Same as Jim we go to several euro shows and always book the bus on as a low car never had any issues. Roughly £50 each way normally.

I've been looking at the spa dates and the return journey is working out at £115 return.

Once your in Calais I think it's 219 miles to spa. So it's a fair trek but the show is worth it, and the road trip is half the fun, fit a CB and you can still chat to other people in the group if there's a few of you?

We thought about going by ferry from Hull, and doing Rotterdam, Google maps say it's about 400 miles it's just nearer for folks that live up north, if anyone else has any ideas let us know.

I have been for the last 4 years I have got the ferry Dover-Dunkirk 3 times it makes more of a fun trip of it. You can relax on the ferry it's a 2 hr crossing
Chunnel is 30 mins
We have got there on the Thursday and the Friday although Friday gets very busy very quickly
It's about 3.5 hrs from Calais or Dunkirk to spa if you don't mess about, it's a fantastic show we'll run, very few rules and people are very well behaved, the Europeans really know how to do shows, none of this over the top health and safety cobblers.
The track parade on Saturday is one of the best things you will do apart from being allowed to run yout vehicle around the track at what ever pace you like earlier on in the day.
All the guys are very welcoming and the parties and music goes on well into the night so if you like quiet maybe stay in a campsite just on the outskirts of the circuit, there are toilets and showers down in the main camping area the showers cost a couple of euros.
Fantastic event 10/10 can't wait till August myself. Have fun
