Has anyone ever gone through a TÜV German test? How was it in comparison to an MOT?

I am having a nightmare trying to register my Riviera as it was never originally sold here in Italy so they only see a commercial van with windows chopped in it. Add to that the fact it’s modified! The standard practice here is to do a TÜV SÜD which they also do in Italian language providing a full data sheet on any vehicle presented to them.

Before I drop the 1120 Euros on this I wanted to see if anyone has any knowledge/experience of TÜV.

Do a few searches as I thought there was a thread a while back on this subject.

I did have a search but all that i could find was about some guys getting pulled by german police when heading to Hessisch Oldendorf 2013,

Found this in the for sale threads. viewtopic.php?f=51&t=102969 . I would say contact the seller of this bus as he claims to have just put his bus through the TUV and should have up to date advice.

i registered my bus in germany did the tuv. its tricky with a modified vehicle here too. you best bet is to let a specialist register for you unless you have time and patience to keep going back. took me 2 times on a stock vehicle.

essentially every mechanical mod has to be checked approved and written up on the papers.

i've only spoken to them on the phone they seemed ok but i've not actually done business with them , there waiting list was too long, so can't say more.

It is very very hard to get tuv for not standard car and it cost allot, anything from 500 to 10000 euro.
Concept racing single cab cost as 7000 euro!
They kept it for almost a month as every aliuminium weld was x rayed not to mention porsche engine, brakes, wheels and on and on. Was a nightmare!
Or sometimes you wont get it at all!

Although, i suppose, im with the Germans in principle. Some of the mods performed here are questionable at best... Some middle ground perhaps?

Just checked back in here after a busy time and have seen the extra advice, thanks all for the input, this is still ongoing. if i can fill every box on my V5 and return my vehicle to the UK for another MOT then i may be able to avoid this TUV. i made the mistake of getting a. a modified vehicle and b. a model never originally sold in Italy....but i live in hope!

wow thats interesting with the cost. thats why the csp brake kit is so good because the papers are with them so theres no big costs beyond basic administration and reprinting the papers.

Often when I'm searching for something in old posts I dont find how they turned out so I thought I wouldnt leave people hanging....I got my number plates

It only took 13 months and nearly €1500

If anyone at any time in the future is reading this then pm me and if I'm still alive then I will send info to help...if I did it again it wouldn't take half this amount if time ...but it would still cost as much
