Hi Tony, we stopped at Waterfoot Caravan Park, Ullswater. Some parts you can park right on the edge of the lake.

I live in the lakes Tony out of all i think the Eskdale camp site is one of the best
http://www.hollinsfarmcampsite.co.uk/
but do you need a campsite ?? if not there are plenty of hide away areas for a nice night without being disturbed

Ooo, I am liking the look of that first one, especially if you can camp up right on the waters edge
Think I will be planning a road trip, 7 odd hours for me according to Google though! and add a couple of hours to that for splitty power!
may have to include an overnight stop on the way there..

Yeah, its beautiful. I'll double check the details. There is a nice little spot at Appley Bridge near Leyland. Not to far off the M6. It's just a small siding off the road by a canal and two pubs. I'll post you the exact location. Might be ok.

We go to the lake every year. If the weather looks up we might try Easter weekend.
If you want something basic in coniston with lake access off the site try coniston hall camp site. It's a nice walk to the centre of coniston with loads of great pubs and cafés.
