ipod classic Red ring of death

by silversteve » Mon May 04, 2015 8:33 pm
Right at Stanford hall my ipod classic froze and the red ring of death has appeared, I have looked on you tube and our friends world wide are suggesting it keep hitting the back of it until it resets...

has anyone experienced this and what did you do to resolve. I have so much music on there I will be gutted if this is bust!!

thanks Steve

I think it's only the stuff you've bought from I tunes. I recently bought an iPhone and when I synced it the only music is that which I've bought so all my CD collection hasn't transfered. Yet another example of Apple behaving like @rseholes and trying to force you into only using them for everything.

Cheers, Lee

Ps have you tried switching it off, locking it, unlocking it, switching it on then hold the centre and (I think) bottom left. This usually re sets mine but I might have the order wrong, if you google it you should be able to find the correct sequence

There is software available that allows you to view it as a HDD and access the files direct. Its not strictly Apple legit but Ive heard of it being used it in the past to retrieve non iTunes music thats stored on the iPod. Might help save your collection if the actual iPod is dead.

You should be able to import all you CDs into iTunes easily so don't despair too much. How did you get the songs into the ipod if you didn't do it through iTunes

Steve

They should still be in iTunes, just connect your new device and transfer them over.

If it's a classic have you tried the hard reset?

http://www.apple.com/uk/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/

I have one and it goes a bit squiffy sometimes, but this has worked every time so far.

Plug it in like Richard said and leave it running overnight. Hubby has over 250 CDs on his and ok it took nights and nights of copying the CDs over, but to then actually transfer onto the ipod took a couple of hours.

All is not lost ;)
