Went on a vey short trip around to my work and then back home, could smell fuel but that's nothing really unusual, so decided to look in the engine bay anyway. This is what greeted me

The pics however don't show it actually squirting out through numerous cracks





So I am now in the process of changing it all for this stuff

Happened to us last year coming back from Springdub.
Also had to replace 7 metres of it on the golf...

I recently checked my codan r9 fuel hose that was 18 mnths old - it was cracked to hell! I replaced it but it was worrying that even though i used the good stuff it still didnt last

So r9 stuff is not really good enough either.
What are all the car manufacturers using these days? I don't see us having so much trouble with our modern cars.

a good warning,
a lot of the stuff vw suppliers sell is inferior,
and the braided hose hides the cracking ,
a few guys on TLB have had new r9 hose split after 1 year ....

here is the r10 hose , you have to assume its a better option..

Well judging by the claims they make its the answer. My point is you don't buy a new car and have to change the fuel lines every couple of years so why can't we use what the manufacturers are using?
I obviously realise most of the fuel supply on a modern vehicle is fed via solid pipework.

Ha,ha, AFS suggested R9 for me !

Oh well, I suppose tech moves on..looks like I'll have to get some R10 now!

Can anyone advise on the best solution on the market at the mo in terms of fuel hoses please.

I have seen a few posts re Machine 7 and I currently have the braided hose which I want to change over in the next week or so - just wondering what the best option is please.

Would have thought the above (R10, from AFS...they are on ebay under the name silicone_hose_world)

But this is probably only as good as the petrol that goes through it and the amount of ethanol the government want to put in it!

ATT BLEEDING MOODY - REALLY IMPORTANT WARNING REGARDING THE R9 HOSE THAT YOU HAVE JUST FITTED!!!

I fitted this exact hose in september of last year. Bought as a kit from Halfords, looks identical to the stuff you have just fitted.

Was checking my bus over today as was having some tickover issues (non related to fuel lines) but whist there I noticed the R9 fuel line I fitted in September 13 was totally shot! I couldn`t belive what I was seeing - heavily perished and deeply cracked fuel line just waiting to fully split open at any scecond.

Will be avoidng this stuff in the future! Now looking at that expensive stuff from vwaircooledworks.co.uk suitable for modern ethanol based fuels (he claims this is what is fitted to brand new Vw`s) at £42.50 for a 1.5meter kit it`s not cheap - but if it actually does what it says on the tin then it has to be worth 10 times that initial cost to any of us.
