Morocco bound in my '59
by griffo1 » Sat Jan 30, 2016 5:27 pm
Hey all
So the time has come. ALOT of prep/work on the van but she is loaded and ready for the off tomorrow. I shall be getting the ferry from portsmouth to Bilbao then drive to the ferry across to Morocco for a Month of surfing!
Been working non stop on my van for a month but I'm super pleased with the outcome. Interior is done and looking sweet. I went for a little camping oven which is ace. Means proper cook ups!
I have off road tyres that just fit onto the back for desert bush bashing and waffle boards for the times I get stuck which is bound to happen!. Want to be off the beaten track and have raised the suspension (after it was dropped with a S/A and dropped spindles) to manage with this. I even rigged up a simple shower from the water barrel on the roof to rinse off after a surf works surprisingly well!
I'll be posting to instagram on progress under my name. @northernbigbird and hash tag #moroccointhe59 so look me up and keep fingers crossed she behaves! I've packed enough spares and tools to do the Dakar!

Will you be coming last the M25 when you get back? I don't mind meeting you somewhere

Well I made it! Few tracking problems through spain which scrubbed out half the tyres. Re tracked and rolling within a few hrs! A lot of chugging up hills and even the new csp disc brakes can't keep up with the steel hills. Thought I was gonna go into the sea a few sara back. Crazy brake fade even with the usual on off technique.
Fingers crossed for the rest of the trip. Hasn't missed s beat so far. Over 1200 miles. Inc 420 in one day over 12 hrs driving
