Changing the colour of a van.......

Changing the colour of a van.......

by rashersoflaois » Fri Feb 11, 2011 7:55 pm
Right, so I'm looking at a few vans and I've spotted a couple of really nice ones but the missus isn't pushed on the colour so couple of questions.....

Is it ok to change the colour away from original or does that make me a w***er?

Can any decent respray shop do it or do I need a specialist for a classic?

Is a colour change going to decrease resale value?

Not neccesarily, unless you change it to yellow

Any decent shop can do it, but get more than one quote and try to see their work.

Is a colour change going to decrease resale value?

Possibly, but also depending how original the rest of the van is, it would for me.

as above as for colour affecting price not sure it would to be honest theres lots of VW colours to choose from and an even greater choice if you look at other marques and newer colours as long as you don,t go to jazzy bright purple or orange , yellow etc

Thanks lads, not thinking of anything crazy colour wise, I've seen a couple that are either an odd colour or single colour, would prefer White & dark blue or White & red or something

just take your time choosing check out as many combos as you can if you have a body shop in mind for the work they should have colour chips you can take home and peruse at your leisure you,d be amazed at the choice and variation in colours the hardest part if your going for something of your own choice will be visualising it on a vehicle

Colour is a very personal choice, you will probably change your mind 100 times as well. I prefer the look of cellulose too as I find two pack looks a little 'jammy'.

I agree.
I've seen buses on here that people rave about and they still don't sell.
Thats why we are all different and like different things. What one person will spend 25k on another person wouldn't even go and look at it.
In the end the only person that needs to be happy wih your bus is you. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

If you have an idea of the colour you want, as you have mentioned above, then why not just look at buses in the colours you like?

Seems a bit strange to be thinking of changing the colour when you haven't even bought the bus yet. :?

Like I say I've seen a few that fit the bill but the miss us isn't sure of the colour, just want to have it as an option, if I can find one I like in a decent colour then better again

just bare in mind to buy the best bus in your budget regardless of colour... much better to have a good bus in the wrong colour to a not as good bus in the right colour

Fair enough, if you find a good solid bus that you want, with a crappy paint job.

I debated for at least a year probably more like two, on what colour to paint mine. Standard sealing wax red and beige grey, or the colours i actually wanted, cream and beige.

I ended up winning....

So far only sprayed the inside, but exterior soon.

If you want to change the colour, as said above see their work, and get several quotes, and even better if you can get a recommendation from someone.
