Not sure what you mean?
Omg everyone knows that real genuine splitscreen busses have a peak above the cab to supply air to the engine

it might have been hit but it looks to me more like the door alignment is out or maybe the door is open? the swage line doesn't line up, so either the door has dropped, is bent or is open and that makes the door top look bent. cant really tell from that pic but is the lower panel below the door missing or is it just dark?
anyway hopefully it is out there somewhere.

Wasn't there a story of one being scraped/cut up left in a field in Leicestershire/Northamptonshire years ago, maybe my razor sharp memory playing tricks on me.

You need to delve deeper into your memory archives Simon and furnish us with more information. There was a RHD '54 Deluxe in the 80s that was rusting away in a field in that neck of the woods, but I don't have any more info on that one. There was a sketchy photo printed somewhere, maybe IVVM or more likely the Split Window Beetle News Letter of the Deluxe, but I can't for the life of me find it.

It's no longer on the OG plate according to DVLA - that number doesn't come up as a Volkswagen.
