Gutted for you.
I know how heart breaking this situation is.
I would like to buoy you slightly by saying the two times i have had aircooleds written off, (after extensive work as i know yours had) i eventually bounced back better off.
Possible cold comfort right now, but as you said there are other vans but only one you!
Good luck!

To say I’m devastated is an understatement I was one week into a 3 week road trip after Ninove, and was fulfilling a long held persoanal dream when it all happened. I have no idea what caused it, I suspect I never will. Just glad we managed to get the bus off the forecourt before the fire spread any further to the petrol pumps etc.
The camper is totally gutted, everything inside is gone, but the main thing is that no-one was hurt! Some great memories were made, and that is what I’ll try to hold on to. According to my wife, there is only one of me… vans can be replaced!
So sorry to see this, distressing as it obviously was at least you are all safe, hope things turn around.........Magic

Such a tragedy, and whilst bad it could have been much worse. Can it be salvaged at all? It would be one hell of a phoenix from the flames.
I had a bit of a scare when I took my bus out of winter storage a few weeks ago. Filled it right up to the first click of the pump, which for me was just below the filler cap and headed off down the A1. There was a really strong smell of petrol and when I got home fuel had forced its way through the top of the tank via the gasket for the sender unit. Got the phone in there to take a few pics and judging how I've not much paint left on the top of the tank it looks like its not the first time. I've got a new gasket ready to go in. In the meantime I'm not filling it up past half way just in case. I've got R9 fuel lines in there and an automatic fire suppression system. Pays to be safe.

One of the many painful lessons from this tragic experience that I’m currently having to learn, is make sure you have the contents (personal effects) of your camper properly insured if you contemplating a road trip! Decent cameras, sleeping bags, iPads etc. very quickly mount up in value

Great to see you've got a bus again and haven't been too scarred by it all.

Nice one! Many would have chucked the towel in and bought a t5 or something (probably me included) Good luck on your new adventures!
