My experience with Alex was the same. Sent him some 944 hubs to be modded for early spindles. Went quiet didn't reply to anything for a year. Only got the hubs back in the end because a friend that knows him well contacted him and applied a little, pressure  :D
Problem was he'd removed the old bearings with something like a bricklayers bolster and hammered the bearing seats 8O

Hopefully you'll have a better outcome....but don't be holding your breath.

Sweet Rides wrote:If this turns out anything like Steve`s irreplaceable Mauser bowl which he also "lent" Alex to copy, then I`m afraid this won`t be a happy ending...
As I understand it that was a little different, I heard Alex packed up it so it would survive being run over by a truck and sent it to a manufacturer and when that same manufacturer sent it back it was shipped wrapped in a pillowcase. Very sad. Hopefully he was able to comfort or compensate the owner of it somehow.
Sadly, that's not quite correct. I didn't lend the bowl to Alex, He 'borrowed' it from Ady before I picked up the bus. Alex sent it to India in nothing more than a flimsy cardboard box only slightly bigger than the bowl and 'packed' in a few sheets of newspaper. It arrived in India already smashed and the company sent me the correspondence to prove it. They were asking Alex what he wanted to do about it so he knew for sure that it did not arrive in one piece. He lied directly to me many times over and the stories of divorce/illness/and a shed load of other .... went on and on. It arrived back to me after many many attempts to retrieve it about a year or so later... in the same crappy cardboard box and the rest as they say, is history.

Your story is a familiar one and I went through the same crap. He dropped off the grid when I tried to get him to return the bowl. The only way I got it back was tracking it down to the company in India and explaining the situation. They were very gracious and went on to explain that Alex owed them several thousand dollars for tooling, setup and parts they made for him... which he had probably already sold on to the rest of us. As I understand it, they never did get paid what he owed them, I may be wrong but Alex lied and gave so many excuses over time that I have no reason to believe he would ever do the right thing.

I'd had a few issues getting parts from him for a couple of years before that and thought he might just be a bit unorganised and just over promised on orders etc. However, after posting the Mauser bowl saga, I had PMs and emails from many people all, over the world who shared horror stories of dealing with him. He is simply a con man and a thief and a liar. I wouldn't ever deal with him again and cannot understand how he is not in prison. Or maybe he finally is and that's why you can't get hold of him? :D

I wish you the best of luck! Please keep us posted if you do get lucky break and track it/him down. Good luck

Greg a.k.a. Campingbox is in the USA....Small Claims Court not an option.

George21....in the eye/ear of the beholder....doesn't sound like this guy has aleg to stand on(though now has a very old bed frame to sleep on).

A year is too long, 10 years is ridiculous. 2000-3000usd owed ontop....?

See quite a bit of this in bus-land these days

Another 6 weeks and no response from Alex.

I have offered to pay to pack and pay to ship the bed frame from him to us, I have offered to pay to have a courier come pick it up, I have offered to let Alex keep the $3000.....and he still doesn't feel like that's good enough?

What else does he want?

Is he looking for me to apologize for airing his dirty laundry on this forum? I'll do it. Does he want this thread deleted? Return the bed and I'll contact the moderators and ask for it to happen.

I seriously don't get it.....it's almost as if somehow he feels entitled to screw the owner out of his cash and property.

That's cool Tim. There's a bunch of other people on The Samba that might take up your offer. I'll be very interested to see if any of the stolen money or items are returned to anyone. Please keep us posted.

Sent you an email.

It's basically just a cut and paste of the first post in this thread since none of the specifics have changed.

The owner of the bed frame isn't super concerned about the cash, only wants his stolen bed frame back.

I'll pay to have it packed and shipped home.
