Wasn't that bus in Greece? and that is 2000 miles away, that tree looks like an olive tree and I definitely can't see any sink holes or rain :D

Rob, is it the same bus?

If only you applied these detective skills to finding the bus yourself
And you don't win. You knew which country it was from, inside knowledge.

Today's happy face sticker is awarded to Scotty for a solid guess straight off the back of clue 1.

Beetleben gets the Neapolitan. Strawberry, chocolate and vanilla, Yum!!

Like Rikki as my Sambas keep getting older. (Though I've peaked  )

I do think its hilarious that through all this there was a picture right there of a finished 51. My Avatar. :D

Your pic gave it away dude, I have a photographic memory of every bus on Tonnys site

Besides, you're a deluxe boy, I can only see you driving that distance for a glasshouse- you know where there's early busses but haven't gone for those, so it stands to reason that its a samba  now stop procrastinating and get the story up! :P

It might be the Guinness and Jack but I still don't get this "clue". Why couldn't you buy one new?? Do you just mean that no Greeks could buy one new because of the dictatorship, or am I being stupid?

Here you go -

David Eccles wrote:Somewhere on here was something about white roofs on Barndoor Deluxes...
According to very reliable sources and documentation from VW factory, the prototype demonstrator shown in 1951 brochure and publicity materials and the Frankfurt show had a factory white roof. Although production started in Aug 1951 only a few were built and none of these for sale to general public - they were supplied as demo vehicles to dealerships. These also had a white roof. The Deluxe was not actually available to general public (officially) until January 1952 and no vehicle from the Wolfsburg production line had a white roof..just Chestnut Brown. Any white roof Deluxes that exist are either 1951 demo / exhibition vehicles or have had it applied after it left the factory.

OK..thats today's cure for insomnia!
David

Cool huh!!!
Now you can appreciate its rarity.
