Help with a vin number

Help with a vin number

by D3KCA » Tue Mar 03, 2015 9:51 am
As per my post wanting a splitscreen. I have been looking at a bus which is in good condition but has no m plate. The certificate is there from LA and a vin nimber on it reads 917503. Ive have tried searching samba but im getting myself a little lost. Any pointers?

Thanks

Blinkin eck that was quick. That seems to fit with the blokes description. Could i request a birth cert with that number?

You could but I hear it's taking up to 8 months at the mo. Does it still have a vin plate on the r/h side of the airbox.

The number should be stamped on the body right hand side of the engine...no problem getting cert from VW for that and get a replica M-plate made from the certificate

This code you mention on the engine. Is it on the engine or a panel in bay as there is no engine fitted

The numbers dudes on about should be on the flat engine bay panel on the r/h/s. There should also be a vin/id plate on the r/h/s of the overhead airbox. It should correspond to the vin in the engine bay and tell you what body type it left the factory as.

If it is a Feb March 62 the number should be stamped as said....VIN PLATE will be rivetted to the back crossmember
on the RHS of the tunnel.

Moved in 1963.
My March 62 RHD has the VIN plate there and the m plate behind driver's seat.
See my Sherry thread...

If you have a vin plate attached to the rear cross member and stamped in the RHS engine side plate and they match ...
Take that as the correct number.
Refer to the listing on thesamba.com and work out the month and year..
Does the bus have an m plate?
You should have been able to find details which will show where the bus landed in the USA.....
Then check the features of the bus...

Door handles
Dog legs
Engine vents
Rear lights
Rear hatch handle cut out
Lips on rear wheel arch etc..

But US bus may have fried egg front indicator lights....were introduced earlier in US..
Pink slip mistake could be genuine re register error...

When you apply for UK registered will need some form if VW confirmation..which will be based on physical numbers you provide...
