HO17 Questions......

HO17 Questions......

by OxonPhil » Mon Feb 20, 2017 10:24 pm
Hi everyone,

I have a couple of questions to those of you that have been to Hessisch Oldendorf before please.......

1. If I go to BBT on the Thursday, where does everyone sleep that night ??

2. Do most people take awnings, or do we have to do without them ?

3. Is it better to buy a flexible ticket for the euro tunnel ?

4. What are the essential things to take ?

5. Can I get away without cooking for the weekend ?

I'm sure there will be more questions as I think of them !!

Cheers,

Phil. :D

4. A lot of euros!
5. Yes. There are a number of restaurants/cafes/take away places in the town that you can get meals etc at. Also most of the bakeries do a nice line in filled rolls a.m. There are two large supermarkets in the town where obviously you can get rolls, tubs of salad, cold meats, milk, fruit etc to do your own thing. Check out the opening hours however - not as liberal as ours, possibly shut all day Sunday.

1 I am sure those who have done this can answer
2 Camping area has plenty of room for awnings and also hot showers (burning hot!)
3 Probably yes then you are not tied or having to race back? Guess its a cost thing in the end? I do the overnight from Hull
4 Whatever you would normally take away with you on a trip including spares like cables dizzy cap etc..
5 yes you could but the restaurants get very full in evenings! Local supermarket has all essentials however but check when its actually open

For those who have been before do you drive to the town in the morning from the camp site or walk ?

its a 10 minute easy walk down a track from camping area to the town. Coming back at night I advise a torch! You can't park in the town itself anyway unless you are booked as a display vehicle (or joining with the rundfahrt..)

Hi David,

I didn't see these options when I booked my place ???

The only option I saw was for a race 8O

I assumed that booking a place (and paying the money) was the entrance to park in town ??

sorry yes if you are registered and booked in you will collect your goodie bag pack with display info etc etc (and a cool metal badge) from HQ in town centre. You will be allowed through barriers Sat morning and be parked with other Split Vans (and loads and loads of vintage VWs) in areas they have set aside. Then back to your camping spot late afternoon. Details about the rundfahrt and joining in (no need to book but not 100% sure) will be in the pack. Rundfahrt is actually very cool scenic drive with a winch ferry crossing and old fashioned map reading. If you booked in going to the Sat night meal it's a 5 min walk to the hall down the track (torch when when staggering back late is advised!)

If its still the same as in 2009 then every one slept at BBT! Prior to everones arrival, Bob had asked the permission of the other businesses (that have the remaining industrial units) on the estate if it would be o.k to use their parking areas overnight for the VW`s to camp in and every one of them was o.k with it, so literally the whole industrial estate was covered with VW`s camping and enjoying Bobs excellent hospitality. It was great! 8)

Hessisch is awesome.
No.3. A flexible ticket will work better on the chunnel. (It goes round the bends easier).
