REGISTER VEHICLE IN THE UK WITHOUT MOT

REGISTER VEHICLE IN THE UK WITHOUT MOT

by dck208b » Thu Mar 23, 2017 5:48 pm
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a vehicle registered in the UK without first obtaining an MOT? I have a splittie from Sweden that came over some years ago and will be subject to restoration. Can I get it registered with a registration number before the resto starts and it gets roadworthy?

I don't think so. One of the documents I had to produce was a valid mot, this is done on the chassis number and a new certificate issued once they have allocated a new registration number. That was before they computerised the mot system, but I can't imagine it's changed. It needs to be insured as well in the same way.

If it's pre 1960 fill out the DVLA MOT exemption form and submit with your registration application as normal. They may still require an examination inspection though.

I am sure I have seen some restorations for sale that have originated in the USA but state that they have been UK registered. Obviously pre resto an MOT would not be possible so how do they register them?

Maybe I was dreaming....
