Vehicle Documents for an Imported Bus

Vehicle Documents for an Imported Bus

by Ebeneezer » Mon Feb 19, 2018 4:12 pm
Afternoon all,

Trying to help someone out of a tight spot. A contact overseas bought a bus and shipped it over to uk for restoration. All the documentation was sent with the vehicle so the restorer could sort everything out and then ship back overseas when completed.

Trouble is the restorer has gone bust and disappeared, along with all the paperwork. I've got possession of the bus but that's it. I have a VIN number and the M Plate.

Can any of you guys who import regularly give me a step by step as to how I can sort out this mess?

This is not a scam to legitimise a hot vehicle and the story of the resto so far can be seen here :-

Any help and guidance gratefully received.

There must be import papers / duty paid docs with Customs. You will need copies of those to register it, along with insurance and an MOT.

No idea how you get copies of those though.

Speak to DVLA and also HMRC. I find them both very helpful these days.

I will start off by apologizing if this isn't the right location for this post. I tried to search for similar topics, but couldn't find anything for my specific questions and then I found this. I was just thinking of shipping a bus last week and wondered if it's possible to ship to UK now that there is a pandemic going on?

I just spoke a couple of weeks ago to the shipper that I've used 5 or 6 times over the years and he said that nothing is going to be moving out of Long Beach until 2021. Don't know about other ports though.
