I've got a 65 SO42 recently restored and painted and above the n/s tail light there is a hole (presumely for a reversing light, but gearbox not wired in for reversing light) I was thinking of fitting a female 240v hook up in the engine bay with the connection being flush on the exterior but don't really want a big cheap looking plastic thing protuding from the hole. Does anyone know where you can get a classy looking spring loaded female hook up/cover which would fit flush to exterior bodywork?

why not get a old style tow bar hook up and fit the new one inside

i put a female electric hook up point in the engine bay of my splitty

fixed it to the side of the spare wheel well and i just plug in the extension and have the cable running out the side of the boot lid, i didnt want to have anything showing on the outside of my bus

ive also fitted a water proof socket in there so i can run a extension into the awning

I was just thinking of asking the same question. I want to put the main hook up point in the engine bay just like Matt and just have the lead out with the engine lid slightly ajar.

I have seen a mains hook up kit on the JustKampers website for about £80.- which seems a bit much to me. Any ideas where to get it cheaper.

Matt do you have any pics of how you have installed it?

ill take some over the weekend for you

£80 not bad for a kit i bought a trip box from the local caravan place £38 i think, then the wiring 2 nice polished twin plug sockets £12 each b/q and a water proof socket around a tenner

really easy to fit if you dont mind trying (make sure you fit a trip box for safety), got a sparky to check it before i plugged anything in and all was fine

took 2 hours max and has been the best thing ever since i bought my splitty

Try towsure, seem to remember the whole kit was about £50, I have fitted mine behind the rear mudflap, and fed wire into engine bay & thru to interior, you dont have to leave engine bay open then.

here's mine on the splitty (trip box thing is under R+R bed... which is near the mains plug thing also which is set-up from this trip box thing!)



no piccies of the one on the bay window (cannot find) but that one's stuck right next to the tow bar electric thingie ....

I have checked Towsure and their kit is about £20.- cheaper.
I am now thinking of fitting the connection and the 'fusebox' to the rock and roll bed and have the extension lead through the pop out window when I'm parked up.
I only don't know if the plug fits through the window.
Anybody can me tell anything about this?

ive just mounted my hook up point under the van out of site but east to hook up too

I have small pop out catches. Another option I have is to put the lead through my sliding roof. At least I don't have to drill any holes.

If you put it underneath your van doesn't it get filled with dirt (and maybe water)?

Mine is mounted behind the mudflap so gets no dirt/water from the wheel, and the socket has a built in cap to keep dust etc out. Been on for 2 years now and not had any problems.
