Mine's for a RHD 67 split bus, although it'll be connected to a 1303s gearbox (Red 9 IRS rear end), i presume that would work ok?

What is the general consensus on extensions? Is the standard length similar to the standard gearstick?

Yes standard length is similar to standard gearstick. Because you don't have to move it as much though means that you're not having to lean over to change gear. I didn't bother with the extension and mine is fine. In fact it's better than fine, it's AWESOME
