Small cushion over easicool

Small cushion over easicool

by 63 Split » Thu May 28, 2015 6:58 pm
Hi

Can someone tell me what size the cushion or wooden lid that goes over the easicool should be. This is for the one that sits under the rear facing seat and faces the cargo doors.... Cheers

Well I can go measure..
I have a wooden board over the easicool...and I have a cushion which is around the same size.
I have still not resolved how I want the cushion to be attached..

Off to measure and to photograph...

I have a wooden board with a rear rib and two front support pegs over the easicool. This like most solutions here has been made by a PO and is not original. I have seen many variations.

The board is 235mm x 405mm I have a cushion the same size which is 50mm thick

Mine is press studded on, and there is also press studs on the wardrobe behind the passenger's head so the same cushion can go there as a headrest

Hi Angus
Your interior may vary a little.....
You need to use CAD (Cardboard Aided Design!) to mock up your solution to the lid...
Mine is a lid with a rib on the rear which sits on the bar on the front of the tall cupboard with little pads and locating pegs on the front..
On my 65 the board is a simple 5 ply board but slips about all over the place..

So you can have a go at your own solution.
I have seen them with hinges on the front of the cupboard!

Hope that helps..

Mine is not perfect because the ideal would be for the cushion surface to be level ...............I may try 1" foam!

Post pictures when you can!

Mine has two cushions, but it's the osocool cushion that is dual function.

The small square one only does one job.

Ah....Yes I see...
Lost in translation...a single function cushion and a multi function (relaxing supporting and retaining) multi cushion.
Cheers Jim

Angus so this is only a few of the many variations you will see...So basically you can do what works...

Dinette layout 1964 Devonettes (which were the cheaper model ) did not have an Easicool or a water tank and the gap at end of the front seat could be used to hold three plastic fresh water containers. I have seen a couple where a board has been fitted across the end to finish this off.
This leaves a nice physical space and I found a small square top loading 12v fridge that might have fitted there...
Big enough for the essentials ( beer butter milk) etc...
Basically you can go with what you choose.
Yours was a Devonette after all..

My easicool lid is way thinner than Type21f's - its only about 5mm ply, and has no feet or any such fancy stuff.
I has marks where the original cover was poppered (or nailed with fancy dome headed finishing nails) - but when Bromsgrove redid my interior I asked them to make a pocket on the bottom of the cushion that slips over the wood.
It is hinged on the long edge against the main seat and lifts up to get to the tap etc.
66/67 Devon.

Mine is more like Ted's too. Thin ply but no hinge or poppers, just a block standoff on one end. I'll take a photo if I can find where I've stashed it.

At the moment I am undecided what I am going to do... Drive the Bus enjoy it after five years hard work.... (to earn the money!)
The acid test will be when I make the bed..

I am highly doubting the originality of mine but here it is:

The wood is slightly different from the other bits I have and appears not as aged. I also have no poppers although an earlier interior may not have had them?

Jim have you got photos of yours? You have a 60-61 interior don't you?

I think I will attempt to make a better thinner solution for mine and then when I am happy pass the lid forwards to mate back with the grey cushion...lol
