1966 Devon Spaceway Interior Bed Layout Pics

by nhsjohn » Fri Aug 12, 2011 9:40 pm
Hello all

I thought I would post on here a step by step photo bed layout as when I first got the van it was a nightmare trying to trace which interior I had, how the bed was made up and what was missing. As it was piled up in the back when I bought the van and the geezer did not know what it was apart from a Devon interior.

Please correct anything I have missed. The white fill in piece of wood is something left over from my kitchen and just by luck it was the correct size as the Devon piece was missing. I hope people find this useful.

Cheers

John

Thanks John!
Helped me anyway, I have a Devon Torvette, and the bed layout is very similar, I have a section that is used as a door then becomes part of the bed section, I then slot the table into this, I've got a piece of ply then that fills the gap between the cooker and rear facing seat.
Now I've seen yours I might try it that way and see if I can make it work.
Sorry for boring you
Well done though it takes ages taking step by step photos. I had a go too, my threads in here some where, I must up date it some day

We have an original wooden bit that fills in between the seats (like your white bit). You can actually make the bed cushion area wider by using the two rear shelf cushions and the small headrest. I'll make up our bed and take some pics to show how. Nice early Spaceway BTW :)

Cheers for the comments, glad this thread gives help to people. Be good to see others. I like the idea of using the shelf cushions and creating a kind of chaise lougue. Just need my smoking jacket and cigar  . Never thought of that. Do you have any pics of your original wooden bit that fills in between the seats, i know its not as good as my B&Q master piece, ha ha.

just some praise where praise is due; i'm currently planning a devon style interior for my rhd walkthru hi-top bus and this thread has been really helpful for designing the bed.

Just looking at this again..
Doesn't the cooker top fit in the space where the white piece of wood is used?
Maybe I am wrong but I thought the lid fitted there?

I don;t think it fits Graham - Devon supplied the piece of wood, complete with flocked top. For travelling it is kept behind the 'buddy seat' cushion.

That's the part I'm not sure on...the home for the piece of wood??
Does it have a clip/bracket to fix it to the long panel behind the buddy seat cusion?
Where does the hinged part that goes between the buddy seat and the cooker unit live??

Hi Dave
No clip - it just tucks behind the cushion which is itself held to the long panel side by poppers. Surprisingly it stays there perfectly well and doesn't interfere with the seat comfort.
According to one of the ex-employees from Sidmouth, the hinged part was intended to live in the bottom of the wardrobe.
