After inspecting the old original cargo door off my 65, i found it had 4 pins on the inside of the rear door - which obviously held the badge on in days gone by. So that's where the new one's going, problem solved :thumbleft:

Hi Bob!
According to a guy I met who worked in the Devon factory, it was actually Jack's wife who had the 61 made for his birthday. Apparently he thought it was too flash and never actually used it much.
Our 67 Devon has its original badge fixed to the tailgate, below the Volkwagen badge. I've seen a couple of other late Devons with it in the same place, so maybe the factory started putting them there in 66/67? The detailed plastic badge is in the same place on the inside of the passenger door - they kept this location for at least the first three years of Bay conversions.
Just off to choose my next anorak now

Ooh yes - better still why don't you make a short detour to our place and stop for a proper job Devon cream tea with Caroline's scones and jam? Then you can have a real break and have a look around the goodies cave. You have a date yet?

Ho Ho - that's our wedding anniversary  We drop off the teenagers at some boot camp  , then we are heading off towards N Devon for a night or so away. I can see a plot being hatched for Devon cream teas in Devons in Devon. As we've hijacked this thread (sorry  ) perhaps we should be doing a bit of emailing? (BDOTjohnsonATbtinternetDOTcom)

Almost right, just the other way round. The bus was made as a surprise for Jack from his wife, organised by the works manager.
[edit] - oops, I see I was beaten to that by someone with a bigger anorak ;-)

Back on the original subject, I attached mine with black silicone sealant. I was really pleased with it as it gives a really nice black edged 'outline' to the badge.

My '65 Caravette has a plastic woven type of label attached to the rear RH cargo door with four rivets, one in each corner. The badge has a sort of reflective shimmer effect but it is OG and the paint on the door has faded etc and the metal around the rivets has rusted.
I'll post a picture

it is like one of those pictures you can't make out unless the light is at an obliique angle (+ it is 44 years old)
My son's '64 Caravette has a metal badge in the same place...

I have just bought an old metal badge from eBay which is brass plated with nickel. The casting has two 1" long pins to go through two holes. It is corroded around the edges and grubby! It has K4040 cast into the back.
EDIT links repaired

My original cargo door fitted badge is the same two pinned K4040 stamped Caravette badge. Club spares make an aluminium replica without the pins.
