Front seat harnesses and Devon interiors

The cover clips on over the top of the bulkhead and raises the level about a quarter of an inch. The curve of the wardrobe should sit on top of this and as in mine before I got hold of one, there will be a gap until you get one as all buses were coverted form kombis and microbuses not vans and thus, will have this level to which the wardrobe was married up to. I don't have a headrest cushion so can't comment, but will take some more snaps tomorrow and post them. make me a list, my legs are aching!!!!!!!

Ok, that makes sense thanks. I need to find me a cover then! Do Scofields sell them?
Does anyone have a cover for a bulkhead going spare please?
Ideally I need one pretty soon so it all gets painted at once!
What I'm interested in photos of please is the interaction between the wardrobe and the top of the bulkhead. The plan is to fix a harness bar across the top of the bulkhead and this needs to be placed such that it won't interfere with the wardobe when I fit it. I'm also concerned that if there is a cushion fitted to the wardrobe, that too should not foul ont he harness bar. I'm hoping my gibberish is clear enough that you'll not need to be running in and out of the garage tomorrow too much!
Many thanks for your help - it's much appreciated.
Cheers,
Dave

In later Devons, the panel that fits of the division bulkhead was covered in the same material as the lower colour on the front seats. So on mine the rail is covered in Basalt trim....
It is sitting in the back of my car...I'll photo and post in a bit....
I pulled the one off my 64 this very week end. It just clips down..I broke several finger nails prising it off...
Try FBI or volksheaven or similar breaker...

Thanks Graham,
I'm assuming we're talking about one trim piece here that runs along the top of the bulkhead and sits below the Devon wardrobe? The bit I can see in Jonnolly's pic? I'd assumed we were talking about two different layers, but it now seems to just be one that is covered in vinyl?
I look forward to seeing your pictures.
Cheers,
Dave

All one piece Bally, like this...
Similarly, my wardrobe isn't screwed in tight yet so there is still a little gap, but should sit nice and flush

Yes.....they inside of the cupboard pic is my 65....This shows that the liner rivetted inside the cupboard (often missing) and the fact that the inside is sprayed after installation with white paint with flecks of blue.

If you look at the pictures of early buses you'll see that the division on panel vans and maybe kombis (buses which had a division) had just a flat top. I do not know when but the microbuses and deluxe buses had the addition of the rolled panel. I'll look in the parts list I have...
This I know is on my 64 and 65 Devon but not on the 65 Firetruck...
If you are fitting a Devon interior into a bus I expect the cupboards in the later interiors will be shaped to go round the rolled panel..
I have not looked closely at early OG Devon interiors to see if any are shaped to fit the square division.
Just make sure you check yours?
Your bus is a 59? but the interior is a 61/62?
The front cupboard does overlap the division but you may still be able to fit a bar above the division edge and in front of the cupboard.
You could make this a back support to the slider cupboard?
You could make it out of oval section tube? and the belts could slide over it?
You have a bench seat? Drastic I know but you could lower the bench! Like people who tub their arches...

They very rarely come up (I mean, why would you take one off?) but he had decided that removing the bulkhead and fitting bucket seats was better!!!!!!
Each to their own I spose........I suspect yours, if a panel too, has three holes to mount the divider on?????
Thanks for your words of wisdom guys.
Jonnolly - do you know what year your trim piece came from? Are they universal? By that I mean will any year from 55 to 67 fit my 59?

My slider cupboard sits lower that the bulkhead - I don't see how the harness tube could be a support for that, unless the tube was behind the bulkhead?
I'm aiming for as stock as possible a look, so don't like the idea of lowering the bench...
It's all coming together

When you get it you will find the profile has a very shallow lip on the front which clips over the very front of the division. The bump sits behind and the slider unit sits on the bulkhead below it.
Thus you could fit the harness strap mount to the division bulkhead or floor with reinforcement and feed the strap up then fit the wardrobe and feed it over a bar above the trim cover.
This could pass from B post to B post behind the driver's seat your cushion on the wardrobe could be designed to cover the bar. Thus you could get the harness strap height?

I've got the bulkhead trim piece now - thanks Spence
I'll be trial fitting it tomorrow.
Going back to harness installation (and I'm not sure this is the best thread to post this question in) has anyone got any photos of racing harnesses in a split bus - I'm stilll trying to bottom this out and want to see how others have done it (preferably with an interior installed and not just anchoring the harnbesses back in the middle of the cargo area)?
Cheers,
Dave
