WHAT ARE THEY?

brazilian bays (you know, the ones with splitty 15W back ends and a bay front)

with the fronts lobbed off…and a splitty front grafted on



I reckon they are OK…but…..feel for the poor folks (maybe not now…but what about 5 yrs time) who fork out top whack splitty prices, thinking thats what they have bought, only to find out…its essentially a cut and shut from brazil or south America or africa


cos thats what it is…no matter how well its don't, its a cut and shut…with the cut being right in front of that bit that crushes your legs clean off in a crash

whats the going rate for a fake splitty …and why did you buy 2 of them ?

We bought two as it was a good deal. I don't want to say the price but it was cheaper to buy the two than a single average condition original split.

we plan to keep one and sell the other (not for splitty prices though, I still class it as a nice bay with a twist)

would be interesting to see how well they are done…i'm sure they could well be better than a lot of rebuilt splits
I think they are OK…providing the price reflected the unoriginality and the owner knew exactly what it was (like I say, fine now…but what about 3 owners down the line ?)


considering the effort involved, i'm surprised they didn't 'samba' them

I'm the second owner since conversion.

They're not perfect, far from it but it won't take much to get them back up to a good standard (window seals are the worst part) but they're very good.

we're not trying to fob them off as Splitty's to anyone. It just worked financially as a good option for us.

And on that note, we're the best place to get new window seals from?

did they explain how the buses where done ?

I initially though they where brazilian bays with splitty front ends grafted on…..but….looking at the pics, they don't look like that (the gap at the top of the windows below the gutter is 'right' like a splitty

I can only imagine that they have grafted the entire upper body of a splitty….onto a bay chassis ??

i can't imagine why they would do that… as you need a full splitty to start with

they can't have (twice) sourced front clips, doors, cargo doors, roofs, back hatches, etc etc and put them into a bay
they must have had x2 full splitty bodies ?


personally….and not wanting to tar anyone without knowing the facts….i'd be very concerned that

A - a full split screen has been sacrificed to make the bus with chequer history….why ? how ? and where did it come from, to be complete enough to convert, but lacking in its own identity ???


did they give an explanation of what they had done or how they had done it

its also odd that being the 2nd owner since the conversion….another person had bought x2 and managed to sell them both on too the same person

Personally, I wouldn't want to be in your shoes , as I think without holding back on some truth, your gonna be stuck with both the buses….or, someone is gonna be buying something they think is something else

The front of the bays were cut off and a custom made noise and screen section was added. I have a DVD showing the production of the vehicles, the cutting wasnt pretty but the wedding and new fabrication wad very good.

They bought them with various intentions but situation deemed they they had to sell them on.

As I said previously, the deal was good. And I certainly have no intention of misleading the next owner that it's a true split.

I am fully aware of what I have got and very little concerns as the quality is very good. Age is having an inpact at the moment but nothing major.

The entire roof has been replaced
both rear corners
rear hatch
engine lid
Everything ABOVE the beltline, including all side windows
Beltine has been replaced
Sliding door replaced with cargo doors, as well as all surrounding metal work
front doors and all surrounding metal work
front arches
rear quarter
entire long side lower panel
front panel
dash
lower heating plumbing under the dash
cab floor
bumpers
all lights
all glass


now, off the top of my head, thats the entire body

i can't really see the floors, so hard to say if its on a bay chassis…or still on a splitty chassis
my bet is its on a splitty one and has a bay beam, rear running gear…..and VIN

All x2….hell , thats a lot of work

i think you would be misleading them if you told them it was a bay…to be honest

from a computer screen, with only a few pics and a long way from the buses….i'd bet they are x2 brazilian splits , with front panels replaced & real badges….and some creative registration techniques

They were bays. I have the photos and also a dvd of their conversion.

They already had the barn doors as bays as well.

They appeared to be bus like as had rows of seats in the back.
