1962 RHD Kenyan Import for Sale (with free african party light!) SOLD

by afrikombi » Fri Jul 10, 2015 12:07 pm
For sale, recently imported RHD Kenyan bus.

Please see the below as a guideline, we would expect anyone interested to come and view the van in person

Please view the van as a project and understand that in order to make the vehicle excellent a great deal of work will be required.

The bus has not in our opinion been bent above the cargo doors, however what has happened is that the nearside roof has rotted out significantly and this is evident all the way along. Over the doors a crude homemade repair panel has been made to repair the roof and the frame over the top of the doors, and this panel is not straight and has been fashioned by hand not with a metal folder. It therefore foolows the curve that is evident on the outside. There is no evidence of impact in the roof or the cargo doors and floor.

The inside of most panels are visible and therefore when viewing you will be able to see the quality of the external panels, the sides, rear and cargo doors are all reasonable, doors and front panel carry battle scars.

For a complete body restoration of the van you would need in the very least:

• Rear and nearside roof sections
• Cargo floor
• 1 or possibly 2 doors
• Front end panel
• Box section behind front panel between chassis rails
• Cab floor
• Outer front wheel arches
• Inner and outer sills
• Repairs to some of the side panel lower sections
• Repairs to inner wheelarches
• Repairs to front door frames
• Repairs or replacement out riggers
• Repairs to at least 2 parts of the main chassis rails.
• Repair to the floor over the engine where a small access panel has been cut and bent over the fuel tank sender
• There would be numerous localised repairs that I cannot at the moment see, but im sure would become apparent if the shell was blasted.

Although the bus runs, drives, stops and all the electrics work, obviously a complete overhaul of all components for these areas would likely be required.

The engine is a non original engine listed as 1.6 on the logbook, probably from a beetle or bay window van.

The bus has working safari front windows and all the other windows are there although they would need frames / catches repairing or replacing and new seals throughout although.

Many of the fittings and fixtures are not original and originals would need sourcing.

You do still get a free African party light...

NOVA cert will be through in the next 2 weeks at the latest and obviously needs to be in place before a sale is completed...

We are looking for offers around £10,500.00

We also have a a very clean late bay with a westy roof and a camping interior if anyone is interested...

Please ask any questions or request more photos, the bus is in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and viewings are welcome.

Looks like the kind of beat to death crap that has been flooding out of South Africa for years now and sold to the unsuspecting punter in the UK, Leave that crap over there and find a new enterprise. That bus looks worse than the beat down crap barndoors coming over from Columbia. Buyer beware thats my advise

If you are a genuine business and someone buys this from your description you are liable by the distance selling laws and I can just about guarantee you will be hearing from Trading Standards, If you are not a business just a seller then you need to re-evaluate this little gem..

49barndoor, distance selling? He's in the Forest of Dean, I'm sure anyone thinking of buying this or any other bus would go and have a good look at it.
Don't think you have to troll his for sale ad.

I bought a South African import from VW Relics in 2003 from a similar add and spoke with the seller on the phone to back up his description.
I payed the price and sent a transport agent to collect, Trading Standards got me my money back after the seller Keith told me to F off you get what your given. I speak from experience and you have been about long enough to know that bus is beat to death under that paint and still encouraging the guy. His add is not honest why should that be allowed to ride?

This looks like an honest enough ad to me.

What does it matter where it comes from? surely the main thing is that someone will be willing to invest time and money into this and make it what they want and get it back on the scene. Not everyone has 25 k + to invest into their hobby nor do people want to have that amount tied up in an old vehicle so as a start this will most likely suit a lot of folk who can develop it as time goes on and enjoy it while they're at it . As everyone has said, these are old vehicles and you need to take the time to go and see them but it's not right to slate this one just because you had a bad experience yourself

Good luck with your sale dude. :)

VW relics is another story altogether I think. Their reputation precedes them.
And like I said. Always go and see the bus before you part with any money, no matter what the advert says.

It does matter where they came from as VW buses live different lives and suffer in different ways when they come from places like South Africa and Columbia etc etc I now have experience with buses from all parts of the globe including SA and Columbia. You will need more than a £25k budget to get this old bus back up to any decent standard. If that bus was stripped to a shell and dipped in a stripper tank any good restorer in the UK would probably advise you to find another bus because that bus is beyond economical restoration.
