by tombailey77 » Tue May 28, 2013 7:02 am
This was sold and deposit taken but fell through as buyers chain fell through. so back for sale.
1960 RHD Crew Cab (South African). Imported in around 2003 and rebuilt by Toby Hall and shown at Volksworld Show 2004 and front page of VW Ultra August 2004. Rare model with rear load bed air intakes (one of 5 or 6 in the world I believe. Factory suicide door for rear seats and OG scrap yard Patina saved and locked in with lacquer.
Price: £25,000
In brief:
1960 RHD Crew Cab
New 1903 cc engine & Rancho gearbox & Kennedy clutch
Disc brakes and servo
Air ride
Steering Rack
Safaris
This van has been completely overhauled (£10-15k+) over the past few years in regards to Engine, Box, Electrics and running gear.
Mechanical and electrical work carried out by Jim Merrin ( http://www.vwjim.co.uk ), Engine work by Dan Simpson ( http://www.vintagespeed.co.uk ) and all other work by Karl McCarthy ( http://wolfsburgwizards.webs.com )
Currently SORN (been off the road for a year as previous engine builder messed me around before Dan saved the day) and MOT till August but can put 12 months Tax and MOT on for buyer. The Engine has currently done less than 100 miles since rebuild so will need running in, and all the work that Jim did (braking, steering, gearbox, suspension etc…) have probably done less than 200 miles since fitted.
Rides thread here with build on: viewtopic.php?t=74257
Some of Jims work is on here: http://www.vwjim.co.uk/blog/read_22931/cool-crewie.html

Thanks I really won't sure as I know it's a lot of cash, but they are rare, it is an awesome bus, and it really is now fully loaded with a lot of expensive gear that is basically all brand new. Engine has done 85 miles, rancho box about 200 miles etc etc ....
A bit gutted it sold to be honest, hoping it wouldn't !

Good luck with the sale, always liked looking at this doublecab. In my opinion the best in the uk. Just wish I had seen it sooner cos I would have tried to buy it....

Thanks, will be very sad to see it go, typical van ownership as i have hardly driven it the past few years, i have mostly been spending lost of money on it instead and now its finished and ready to roll for the summer, its sold! Although i do have an open invite from the future owner to drive it whenever i am in California
