BANDED STEEL WHEELS
by 24879845 » Fri Jun 13, 2014 11:23 am
Guys,
I was thinking of have a set of standard 14" steels wheels banded..
Making the rears wider and the fronts narrower? Any recommendations for width for front and rear?
Kind Regards
Jamie

I'm running banded steels on my bus and I think they look great with the different depth of rim showing on the front and back wheels.

I've got banded on the back and stock rims on the front, because the back are banded it gives the wheels a different dish making them look different sizes.

Just bumping this thread as i'm looking to band 14 inch steels on the rear as well. I have earlybay irs setup on rear so I have plenty of room to widen the track a bit and bring the wheel 'out' towards the wheel arch. Only thing getting me worried is getting the wheel on or off. I'm not stupidly low and tried it with a 195 70 14 on a standard rim and it just squeezed under the arch.

I banded my rear 15inch wheels by adding 50mm to the outside on an IRS set up and they just fit under the rear arch and then banded the front by adding 30mm to the inside this allowing maximum clearance of the wheel arch and actually looks more like I'm running a narrowed beam
Hope this helps

Thanks for that, can I ask what size tyres you're running so I can put the figures in a tyre size calculator and end up with a similar size diameter with my 14 inch wheels.Dc67 wrote:I banded my rear 15inch wheels by adding 50mm to the outside on an IRS set up and they just fit under the rear arch and then banded the front by adding 30mm to the inside this allowing maximum clearance of the wheel arch and actually looks more like I'm running a narrowed beam

Well the wheels have arrived and I'm now concerned about tyre choice on rear. They are 7inch and from looking on tyre sites it seems that the widest available in 14 inch are 195 65 or 195 70.... Diameter is fine but wanted a bit wider, like a 205... Any ideas?

if you just want the rears to have more dish….but still wanna be able to get them on and off
have you considered type 3 14" wide 5 steels…look like bus wheels but have a more dished offset
I have a set on the rear of my bus
(I use them because they sit further out they clear my adjustable spring plate adjuster better
basically, they look like banded bus wheels, but you have the added bonus of them not rubbing on the inside and185/14 tyre fits perfecto
oh…and they haven't been cut and shut

Just want a wider wheel on the back to fill the arches...They been done at bandedwheelsessex and look amazing in finish and quality of workmanship...they've been banded outwards so as not to foul the adjuster...
