How the hell do you remove clutch arm

How the hell do you remove clutch arm

by chunkynichols » Fri Mar 06, 2015 6:55 pm
How the hell do you remove the clutch arm from the shaft on the gear box. It has a circlip which came off easily but I can not move the arm on the shaft. There are 4 location grooves but it looks like the arm will not come off the end of the shaft. Please help

If it's not been copper slipped up when fitting it may need some welly to get it off.

I'd try a hub puller if you can get one on. Don't try heating it up with a blow torch though. If your gearbox is magnesium it'll go up a treat (think back to chemistry at school).

Worst case scenario, take an angle grinder to it, open up one side and it should come off. A replacement arm is cheap enough and readily available.

Hope that helps !

I've done 2 over the years. 1st one came off with a bit of force but not a chance with the other. I had to cut it off and replace the arm , shaft and bushes. They didn't cost much :)

After my frustrated attempts I took the grinder to it and it is no more. Anybody got advice on a new one there seems to be quite a lot of variations. It's an am code box going in an irs conversion.

Hi chunkynichols,
Measure the shaft,I think it's 20mm and get the shortest arm or else it will foul on the fuel tank shelf.
Heritage sell them,good luck.

Cheers. There seems like a lot of options with the shafts so I have just gone with what looks right. Fingers crossed
