Steam train noises !
Steam train noises !
by NikC » Sun Jun 07, 2015 2:14 pm
Hello
Was just adjusting the timing on my engine and i notices that when i turn the pulley manually I occasional get a whistle noise, not really loud, but loud enough for me to notice it !
It's the kind of whistle you hear from a steam train ....
Should any be worrying ?
Anything i need to be checking as a priority ?
Thanks
NikC

Ok, I'm guessing that's not great.
I can here a similar but faster white at low power acceleration also ... Seems to disappear when I give it more gas ...
Also running hot, too hot to hold the dipstick
Time to call in a pro I guess

Have you checked your valve clearances lately?

Nope - will get it on the list, a possible candidate for the noise ?

So it seems the issue is a gasket ... and a known issue !

I've ordered new gaskets already, but sadly not these ones

Hi Nik
Did you get the noise sorted? We have a whining/whistling noise on our engine. We've tried everything to no avail so the engine's coming out tomoro for further investigation. Wonder if it's the same problem you've got. I'll try and get a video later. It might help other people.
Good luck with the fault finding!

Sadly not ! Just changed the gasket on the carb today and its still there ....
When the engine is running its fine, when i stop the engine it does one "peep"
Interestingly ... when i turn the engine over by hand with the throttle open, no noise, when its close, i get the noise ....
A bit lost now ....
