Its the H number that is the important one - that means its a late split 1500 SP Big Nut transmission
Is that what your'e expecting it to be?

im not sure whats best to do,
what are my options on engines attached to this box?
also brakes, should I keep the rear drum brakes or is it wise to change them to disks?

any type 1 engine will bolt straight on
keep the drums, changing to rear discs is a waste of time and money (unless you really have a plan that you think requires them…like circuit racing)

For the novice, like me, Type 1? I have not a clue,
But willing to listen
I have been reading with interest, and I was thinking of an engine that will be reliable, cruise the motorway at 70mph, and hill climb easily.
Some are saying Subaru some are say 1700 ect, what's your advice? plus, does this mean I have to change my gear box and axles??
