Fuse keeps blowing

Fuse keeps blowing

by tomvaughan » Sun Aug 30, 2015 10:05 pm
Hi all

Whenever I put the headlights on, it immediately blows a fuse on my board. However, withithe fuse blown the headlights still work, but other things stop working, like the interior light. Not being great with electrics, I'm completely baffled.

Anyone with any ideas?

Which fuse blows on the board? As counted from the RHS looking at the board.
Your board needs checking to see what is wired to where first of all.
What colour fuses are in each slot..
You can identify what is run by each fuse by using the fuse layout diagram in the handbook and the named items stop when you pull that fuse. ..
Is this an OG loom?
What year?
RHD
LHD

Etc.

It's a 1959 LHD, although I think it may have a later fuseboard (with eight fuses on it)?

The fuse that blows is the 4th from the right. It's been fitted with a 25 amp, but no idea if this is correct.

It's a new loom. I'll try the disconnect method and see how that goes!

Wow..
That is a big fuse to blow!
I reckon you may find the installation was with a bigger fuse to get round a problem
I would have expected a 6 fuse box as well...So maybe the board has been upgraded...
I would map first of all and try to find out how it is laid out.

I would find out what wires are going to that fuse on each side of the fuse and where they go to..

Did you fit the loom or do you know what year it was made for?
On my 65 Fire truck. I took off the kick board and wrote labels and attached them to each wire I identified as I went along. Then I worked out which side of the fuse board the wires went to snd which fuse and compared with the hand and year layout...
Then I moved wires back to where they should have been on the board
One by one with the battery off!
It worked fine then..
Someone had played about and some circuits did not work.
I still need to work on how the siren circuits are supposed to work. .

Thanks for the advice. I will try that labelling and rearranging the wires. Sounds like I'm in for some fun!
