Cutting out/loss of power
by Bleedingmoody » Mon Sep 07, 2015 4:19 pm
Have a slight problem must be electrical related I think, driving along engine cuts out red light comes on so pull over turn key fires up straight away and runs fine until it happens again, can be a few minutes or a few weeks until it happens again. Any ideas thanks.

You're not going to like this but an intermittent problem like that is going to be a pain in the arse to find, guess it could be something simple like a loose coil connection, would suggest checking all the spade connectors on the leads as if it is cutting out it has to be something common to all cylinders and not just say one HT lead.
Guess it could be the fuel solenoid if you have a single carb or again maybe the electrical spade connector or wire that feeds it.
A starter for 10 for you.

When does the engine cut out? Is it when you are slowing down?
This happened to me on my hols this summer and it was what RIchard said.
Wire broken of the spade connector of the carb solenoid.

I changed all the fuses today as first port of call and it seems to be running fine so far, let's see if it lasts

I would check all the connections at the back of the fuse box as well.
