Fitting Empi gear shift
Fitting Empi gear shift
by rusty1962 » Sun Mar 13, 2016 7:22 pm
Hi
I'm trying to fit an Empi shifter that I bought ages ago when I knew nothing. I know a bit more now but the Empi unit seems to be too long for the distance between the cab floor and the cup in the front rod.
I suspect I may need one of these. Can anyone confirm?

Cheers

Hi Steve - it will need a spacer, read this article
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/man ... manual.pdf
The empi is a copy of the OG Hurst shifter in all but quality.
The quick shift plate will do the trick, although people like cool air do the correct Hurst type spacer, which is just a bit of metal folded into a rectangle.
Hope that helps !
Jonny

Thanks Jonny, that's just the info I needed.
I've looked at Cool Air VW and can see the one you're referring to. I reckon I can make that!

TBH the empi quick shift plate offers a bigger footprint than the Hurst spacer, so for a couple of quid more it might be worth doing it with that ?
