Hi all I've just got a 1958 speedo for my bus, I've put a new needle on it and painted the ring I've never had it in the bus before but it doesn't read the speed correctly jumps from one speed to another and is running about 10-20 mph out can anyone help

Try pulling the inner cable out and giving it a once over with some emery cloth then coat it with oil and put it back in again. It sounds like it's not turning properly and then whipping round and causing the speedo to jump.
Also check that the end where it goes into the hub is square and so is the hole it goes into on the grease cap and it has the little C-clip holding it nice and snug.

Does sound like a cable problem..

Cheers for the help cable worked fine on my last speedo literally took the old speedo out put the new one in could it need calibrating ? May it be the shaft in the back of the clock ? the c-clip and square look good and I defo don't want to break that needle

I had my speedo refurbished by Thorsten...
I bought it second hand with a broken needle but on strip down the gear drive was chewed up, which may have been the cause of the broken needle...
He replaced the drive...works lovely now..
