I am doing my first oil change this weekend n forgot to find out about what oils to use.
So errhummmm whilst its draining can anyone help or point to a chart or thread pls.
I need info on type for gearbox and rgb and engine please.

I have a1776cc 95 bhp engine which has a remote oil filter system fitted.

and bought mine from machine7...after reading lots it seemed a good engine oil to choose and I had already bought their gearbox/rgb oil.

I was more concerned to work out the viscosity to choose...

Several web based guides suggest their own oil and they are USA companies..

I used castrol EP90 (extreme pressure) for gearbox and RGBS

Yes I chose 15/40 but Machine7 stocked Halso..

Ok both my local car shops dont seem to have a fantastic choice for gearbox oil, no EP90 .. So drain plug back in old oil back in and online hunt begins...

EP90 is about the most basic, common gearbox oil you can get, I'm amazed a local motor factor didn't have it!

My advice (but I'm no expert) would be to use GL4 and deffo not GL5 in the gearbox. The reason is that GL5 contains sulphur additives that corrode yellow metals and our oldie worldie gearboxes contain bushings made from (I think) brass. I ordered some Comma GL4 for mine and a tube of moly slip as well and have had no problems since doing a gear oil change about 2/3 years ago.

I think most people agree that GL5 is the best stuff to use nowadays, it was the early stuff that allegedly damaged stuff but GL5 gives more protection

thanks for the replies, well the local shops may have had something suitable but i did not recognise the numbers on the bottles as being correct /same. Prob me just being over cautious ... still better to wait n find out a bit more and thanks to u guys thats whats happening .. i find it a bit confusing as no bootles that i could see had MT1 on the GL5 bottles so was unsure if they actually met that standard etc

Are you bought the snake oil, I checked and Mobil super 1000 has a higher zinc than halos!

Depends on which Mobil 1 you use (there are 9 different types!) but most of the regular stuff was around 800-1000ppm of Phosphorous and 900-1100ppm of Zinc, they did do a version that gives 1200ppm of Phos and 1300ppm of zinc but it's race only and not for road use - full details here -

Difficult to find any detailed up to date information on ZZDP (a compund of phosphoris snd zinc) on the basis that the regs are driving the zinc ppm down because it is possible it interferes with the catalyst if used on a modern car..
and destroys it's function...

So mentions Phosphorous at 1440 to 1470 but not clear for 15/40 but no mention of Zinc..
So where did your data isn't appear stating Zinc?
