I've just replaced my spare tyre, it was an old continental cross ply, (i thought it was time) i got one of these; https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/185-14 ... ewall.html I went for one of them because the tyres on my bus are 185 R 14, The Galaxy's have 80 tyre wall, now the spare wont fit behind the front seats i should have stuck with it how it was could someone tell me what tyres do fit properly behind the seats? and does anyone want to buy a tyre

I would have thought that tyre would fit behind the seats. had a similar problem. my van had old 195 x 14 tyres on it and replaced them with new firestones. which I found out would not fit behind the seat. changed to 185x 14 firestone and they fit.

It fits in the hole, the seats just wont go back to the bulkhead they hit the tyre. The seats not even close to the bulkhead. What is the size of the side wall on the firestone?

I have a 185 R15 tyre behind the bench seat in my 56 truck and it fits. Think it's a 185/65R15. It's the last of the (undersized) tyres that came with my truck. I kept it when I replaced the other tyres because it fitted behind the seat.

its a 66 so they came with 14's . The other tyres on the bus just say 185 R14 maybe i should try one of them. They don't look like they bulge out as much on the side walls.

Has your van got the rubber blocks on the bulkhead for the seats to rest on. They give a bit more room.

It's a good thought but yeah I've got them.

I have a full size Mohawk 185/80 R14 Van tyre behind my bench seat also - fits no problem.... seems odd - do you have the clamp on to hold it to the bulkhead? - is the top of bench seat hitting the tyre, or at the bottom?

just put it in so you can see. The clamp will only just hold it with the wing not right out. but clamp or no clamp its far too wide.

I’ve got 205/70/14s all round, but recently noticed that my spare was a 195 which just about fits behind my 2/3’1/3 split seats without the clamp. But I’ve Ben toying with the idea of trying to find a thinner tyre that I could use as like a temporary space saver that’s around the same diameter

So i take it there is more space behind a bench seat?. Does anyone have a new modern tyre behind a split seat they could tell me the size they have?
