Hi everyone, decided to take the plunge and renew our engine. There must be loads of people on here who have had engines built, so who would you all recommend. I have been looking at Aircooled hut uk, and the VW engine company. Has anyone used them. Please write your reply or pm me. Thanks in advance.

Only heard very good things about ‘The VW Engine Company’.

The vw engine company did the machining work on my case and crank. They were really helpful. I'll happily recommend them.

Been looking at both myself, was going to call both and discuss what they can offer. I also like the idea of going to a 1915, which I believe both can offer.. I know Aircooled Hut sometime sell 1776/1915 recon long blocks, which look like a good way to update your engine at a reasonable price..

I had some welding work done the other week on my Safari’s at a local VW garage and we started talking engines and he said most of his come from the VW engine company. I’ve heard nothing but good stuff about them..

I've just had a 1915 from BJs Speedshop. Very pleased with it. Jay got me to send him the clutch cover plate I was using so it could be dynamically balanced with the crank assembly. Makes for a very smooth engine. Only a few hundred miles done on it, but it pulls like a train, a really noticeable hop up from the 1776. Cost was about £3800 but built to order

What carbs you running on that ?

Basic spec is 1915 cc, Scat C25 cam, 043 heads, dual choke Weber 40s and a Vintage Speed exhaust. Compression is set a a sensible 8:1. Van is straight axled with a beetle box, flies up hills and you can still hold a conversation at 70...

Thanks for the replies guys. I have spoken to Aircooled hut and the VW engine company recently about a engine rebuild and both were very helpful. Have decided to go for new turnkey engine instead. I will get in contact with Bjs as well to see what they say.
