Fitting Fuchs wheels - update ...helps still needed !
by slammeddeluxe » Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:03 pm
Hello peeps !
I need some clarification before I fit some wheels please....
I have bought some porsche fuchs wheels and need to know details regarding fitment.
I am currently running stock drums up front on my 65 bus - can you get replacement drums drilled for 5 x 112 fitment ? Or can you just have my drums re-drilled to take the new PCD ?
On the rears I have a Karmann Ghia freeway flyer gearbox mated to type 3 rear drums - these are four stud - I then run an adapter at present to convert to wide five to take my current Radar wheels.
Can you buy four stud adapters that will run 5 x 112 wheels ? Or can I get the drums machined ? I seem to recall my Radars fit quite nicely over the castle nut due to the adapters moving the wheels out a little.
All help gratefully appreciated
Regards
Paul

For the rears, you can get either blanks or pre-drilled drums. These are available off the shelf. Though I would just check the width of the brake shoe that they are designed for. I know they're available for T1 brakes, but depending on the year, T3 brakes can be larger than some T1 brakes. As long as the Porsche pattern ones are designed for late brakes, they they should fit, but check first.
At the front, I've never tried to find them, but I would be supprised if there are blanks available off the shelf. T2 drum choices aren't as wide as T1's

hello peeps - right - quick update - ordered the drums above that I thought would fit fine....but...they dont
- The splines seem fine but when I measured the diameter the old ones are 247mm ? The depth seems the same as the new ones
Any ideas what my rear drums might be off ?
They are 4 stud as well if that helps ?
Thanks
Paul
any ideas Jim ?

Youve bought bug drums , but your running type 3 ,2 part rear drums , t3 drums are larger in diameter , they dont do a blank type 3 drum , you could have just bought a 4 stud bug to 5 stud adapter that would have sorted rears , fronts i do a wide5 to porsche adapter 15mm thick and once fitted you wont see adapter , cant help you with the rears ..

I am just going through something similar been chating with butty about it.
I have changed the front to porsche pattern discs (5x130) so thats fine, at the rear i am running type 3 4x130 drums which i want to run porsche pattern 5 x130.
the 3 options as i see it are:
Option 1
Wheel Adaptors, 4x130 to 5x130, Billet Aluminium, With M14 Studs, 25mm, Pair £119
http://www.machine7.com/section.php?xSec=642
Option 2
change the rear hub to the ISP west 14 X 1.5 - 4130 CHROMOLY - 10 HOLE - $145 each
http://www.vwispwest.com/GA-501581P.html
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... ?id=836170
would require redriling the hub but thats just basic
Option 3
Upgrading to rear discs various options
Empi beetle rear disc kit
CSP rear discs
Airkewled rear discs
Porsche 944

Type 2/3 Detectives do Type 3 drums in a 5x130 bolt pattern....
They also do/used to do the original rear hub modified to 5x130 although they recommend the Cromo billet one from ISPWest which is what I used...supplied by T3D.

Cheers flatbeat, I didn't realise they did a 130mm type 3 hub, I'll have a look into it. Presumably with the cromo hub you can still use long the long axle long spline axle?
