dropped my 1641 out of my bus yesterday as i have managed to get hold of a nice 1776 with some beefy carbs



i decided to spruce up my engine bay with a lick of paint and thought about adding an electric fuel pump to the 1776 as it just has a stanadard one at the moment,
how do people rate them?
what sort of kits are people running? i was just going to go for the package on machine 7 which includes: facet electric fuel pump, and pressure regulator etc
anyone got any pics as to where they site them in their engine bays?

As long as your standard pump is working well there isn't really much need to replace it with an electric pump.
Those facet ones are quite noisy too iirc.
If you do want to put one on the CB rotary ones are much quieter.

But if the new motor has been running ok with the standard pump then why change it!

Hi, I'm running twin 40 dell's and the mechanical pump was taking ages to fill the float bowls after the engine was left for a few days.I had problems with it cranking over for ages.
Fitted a facet cube pump on rubber bobbins and a fuel regulater set to 3.5 psi.
The engine starts and runs better,the fuel does not get warm and will never worry about the mechanical one leaking into the engine oil.
The pump is very quiet. Can't recommend this enough.

Also hot start and vapour lock issues have gone.
Make sure your fuel cap is also vented.

ill see how the mechanical works fairs when i get the engine in, if not ill go down the rotary route

Youll need a rotary with 3.5psi.

You'll be fine with a working mechanical pump.

As Jim said the manual pump is well up to the job but as above I've been running the cb pump for several years without a regulator and works fine.

I'm running 1776, twin dells 36's @3.5 psi. No issues with my reconditioned mech pump.

What psi does a mech pump run at, i want to fit 34 icts and am having same dilema?

Depends on the pump and the length of the push rod. You can adjust the pressure by tuning the length of the rod

i have 1776 twin 34ict stock pump no worries, mate has twin 44 idf's stock pump no worries

I've put my pump under tank on a bracket bolted to chassis , the regulated is in the engine bay

Running the stock mechanical pump on van but thats just with a pair of small solex's, went for a rotary electric one on my bug with 1776cc motor and 40 Dell's. been great up until recently, but pump has recently started cutting out and sometimes doesn't come on when I turn the ignition (can normally hear it), checked all the conections , but getting very tempramental, mates also seemed to do the same and then gave up the ghost after few years.

Been wondering if there have been other people running into trouble with these rotary pumps? or have I just been unlucky

Not hijacking the thread but think anyones experience with various pumps may also help the original poster make up his mind, and also help me decide whether just to do a straight swap for another rotary one, change to a facet with regulator, or go back to a mechanical one.

Each gasket you add under a stock mechanical pump (which will be more than capable of running a 1776) will drop the fuel pressure by .3 psi. Or you can either put a regulator in line something like a filter king, which will have a filter built in so you can ditch the plastic fantastic one, which is set to 3.5 psi or you can just put a guage in line, adjust the pressure accordingly then remove the guage. I really don't know why people put electric pumps on engines that are not mega cc as its just more to go wrong and they really don't need it.

I no longer have the 1776, but i took the advice of people on here and ran it with the mechanical pump which was more than adequate. No problems at all
