BUMP STOPS
by wgsksajs2000 » Tue Sep 24, 2013 3:53 pm
Hi, My 1967 split bus is missing rear bump stops. I have 2 new ones but unsure of the fitting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure I understand the question...sorry if this is grandmother/eggs...they go on the rear axles, and need a fair bit of pressure/leverage to get them onto their bases. You *get* get them on in place but I find it easier to jack the bus a fair and hang the axlee down
Sometimes the bases rot out, in which case you need to weld tabs back on to hold them.

I just took my van to a new garage for its mot and they said no bump stops is a mot failure. I've got irs but no where for bump stops to attach. I know - just take it back to the other garage. But is no bump stops an mot failure?

Never heard that before, most IRS and all SA conversions don't have bump stops.
Maybe he meant, if you have the provision for bump stops and they're not there / damaged = fail.?
How would an MOT man know if the shocks had built in bump stops or not?

I just looked it up on the official mot site.
"Note: a missing bump stop rubber is not a reason for rejection."
http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_240.htm
Can see the point that you need to check there's some "soft" stop rather than metal to metal.

I've had a couple of instances where the mot tester didn't know his stuff, safaris and us spec indicators. I went to a different place and stuck with them
