how to identify the diff between bus and beetle wheel rims
how to identify the diff between bus and beetle wheel rims
by splitty61 » Mon Oct 28, 2013 6:15 pm
think i may have beetle rims on my bus....not sure if it makes a difference and why they would have been fitted.
how can i tell the difference please.
pic below is of one of the wheels.
can anyone also confirm if they are indeed wide 5 rims.
its all pretty new to me hence the trivial dumb questions and as i want to sell the wheels i dont want to sell someone the wrong thing or mislead anyone.

They are wide 5 bus wheels, with beauty rings on (the chrome bits). Check the tyre size to make sure they are 15's not 14's and it they are they'll sell pretty quick, everyone* is going back to steels!

Hi Rob. Bus wheels in both 15" and 14" (bay window) had 4 slots around the bolt holes, They are quite obvious on the 15's less so on the 14's. Beetle wheels aka smoothies, had no vents and run smooth all the way around. When people get confused about bus wheels I refer them to this samba link.

Scanning that thread...
So 63-67 used 14" bus wheels, except Australian buses were all 15"

Have you had a look behind the white wall insert to the condition of the tyre's sidewall?
I've seen some scary damage caused by white wall inserts!

Not just that Jim, mine wont accept Atlas whitewalls, they fall off with crossplies and smoothies. So if anyone wants a soiled set of Atlas 15" pm me.
