Has anybody done this conversion taking lot's of pictures along the way? If so can you post it up? I'm looking at getting rid of my reduction box set up on my bus. Problem is I have a 72 Brazilian bus. So I have IRS already but using a universal joint set up at each end of the drive shafts. My box is knackered and one of the driveshafts is ropey. I can't get the bits to fix it so I'm gonna have to replace the whole arse end.

Whats the best box for a 1600TP stock engine on IRS conversion. I was thinking an AH code.
Would like to cruise along about 50-60 max. That seems like a sensible speed.

Where is best place to source a reconditioned unit (or second hand) ?

got most of my irs kit but have run out of money,wah!! i have the box with all the beetle running gear on it, a set of late bay driveshafts, so what is the cheapest way to do it myself,ie was going boxwagen which i would love to do but skint so need to do some fabrication of some discription, has anyone done it using all secondhand as a pose to just buying an aftermarket kit. which arms can i use early bay,late bay, beetle. Any advice would be be great folks getting a little t'ed off with this now.

What are the best shocks to use on the straight axle rear end?

Thinking of going IRS. So confusing. Does anywhere just do a full kit and fit it for you? Obviously more expensive option. Just would be safer and easier.

I have refurbed my early bay hubs and brakes and have a shiny gearbox ready to fit along with driveshafts. How long do you all reckon it will take to do the Boxwagon conversion.

Yep I fitted it and its great. It took about 4 days in total which sounds a lot but it wasn't hard I must have just drunk lots of tea. The only issue I had was getting the brackets rotated far enough to set the camber (they were hitting on the heater tubes). I found that once it was all fitted up, I put a jack under the bracket and gently jacked it round. Get everything painted and refurbed before you start and you should have no problems mate .

Also decide what you are going to do about your CV joint bolts; Washers, Loctite etc. I got a bit paranoid

Well worth doing and the kit is very good.

One thing that always puzzled me was why the one on one as conversion plates were different shapes. We're they designed like that or just badly cut? We're they meant to be fitted in a particular sequence?

I could never quite figure it out.

I managed to blow up my gearbox last weekend - gutted. I removed the engine yesterday (1500SP - stock) hoping it was the clutch that had let go, it was not. So think terminal with current box. I cannot determine what it is (beyond been a beetle box).

I am running swing axle (straight axle) on the bus and the marking on the box are

44 113 301 103 D - casing stamps
9678177 - hand stamped, unable to find anything else!

I have a spare box, but need advice if it is going to work (gearing wise). the potential replacement is

44 113 301 103 H 2BR AB25 083 - Which I believe is 1300, 4.375 ratio. Any help is welcomed.
