Just a quick question regarding roll cages...
Anyone know the specifics as to why foot plates are used on some cars and not others? I am planning on fabricating boxed feet approx 25mm high by 60mm x 60mm for mine but noticed some cars just weld directly to the floor or chassis?? Any ideas as to why, it would save me a hell of a lot of work!!

I think it will be for msa/fia regs and rigidity.
Imagine turning your bus upside down and dropping it on its roof, the cage is supposed to be able to support the roof so where does that force go? Down through the cage to the feet.
I have foot plates in mine as it's a tagged cage for drag racing plus it had to be 8 point instead of 6 to be legal in a bus but don't ask me why!
As your not competing in yours it would be for rigidity but here's lots of reading about mounting plates etc.

Thought I would update this with a few pictures now its all done. 8 contact points with chassis, all via footplates, all joints fish-mouthed and welded. Probably not MSA reg compliant due to the front end, but mega strong and should improve safety no end.
Hope it helps people in the future with the same conundrum I had

your bus is nearly a space frame design now with all the custom chassis work as well...
Love it.
