Quick shifter plate - any good?

Quick shifter plate - any good?

by CapeTown62 » Tue Feb 04, 2014 7:05 am
Hello All,

Anyone tried one of those metal quick shifter plates that bolts over the gear stick mount? They say it reduces travel by 40%. My current gear change feels like I'm stirring a bucket of coal and thinking this will improve that. Or should I be looking at the bushes and linkage to the gearbox?

Thanks!

Fitted mine a couple years ago... great feeling, better gear selection.
I wish I had done it years before... :drunken:

I love ours. It made a big improvement for me (small person with limited reach once fastened into fixed seat belts). For £10 it's worth a go and easy on / off again if you change your mind.

Cool thanks for the feedback, looks like I've got some (more) work to do under the bus this weekend! [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Just make sure you get the metal one and not the plastic one :D

They do make a great difference but it is well worth looking at the whole shift mech in one go. Otherwise your getting an improvement on a bad shift rather than improving a sorted shift, if you catch my drift?

The bushes along the shift rod are normally the first thing to wear and it makes a big difference once these have been changed, also the rear gearshift coupling between the mech and the box should be hecked, this is less likely to be causing you trouble but well worth checking.

Thanks Alex, was planning on doing the bushes at the same time. Cheers, Mike
