Lowered buses and deep sumps

Lowered buses and deep sumps

by monkey » Thu May 08, 2014 11:57 am
I'd like to fit a slimline deep sump to my engine when I rebuild it, but am worried that it will be at risk due to the lowering of my bus.

Anyone running a Straight axle conversion (so quite low) and a deep sump? Ever had it bottom out or sustain damage?

on my bay which wasn't low but lowered i scuffed it (the sump plate) on a path by reversing till the wheels touched the curb when doing a 3 point (read 6 point) turn but never under normal driving...the beam caught the road first

Next question.
Does a stocker+ engine actually really need one? I don't think you get much extra reduced oil temperature from running one right?

Probably unnecessary I'd guess.

stock engine no way needs one.....
to be more precise, fit one...and it aint stock no more ;-)

a standard engine setup right shouldnt have any cooling issues or a requirement to deviate from stock

NO! Absolutely not. Save your money for something useful (not 1641 b&p's)!!

What is the engine temperature?? Running too cool can be just as much a problem as too hot.

I'm running a 1641 with twin webers and a stock sump. Temperature running to Vic Farm was around 90-95 degrees in the warm sun so all fine. Make sure ALL the tin is there including the bits underneath that people leave off and the engine is timed etc properly and all should be fine.

Engine is being rebuilt with a 74mm crank (to make a 1699), c25 cam, 1:25 rockers, ported heads and twin carbs.

Not exactly a performance engine, but not stock either. But to be honest I don't run an extra sump on my 'warm' 1914, so I wont bother on this either.

Thread end.
