Amber indicators with red US spec lenses using amber LED

Amber indicators with red US spec lenses using amber LED

It might just be me being a bit slow on the uptake, but I just figured out that I can still have amber rear indicators with my all red US spec rear lenses. Even though I have a UK RHD bus, it has all red lenses on it (because um, I think they look nice :oops: )

Anyway I've tried orange bulbs before with the red lenses but the indicators still look red. Today I tried some amber LED bulbs and they seem to work well (just a but pricey for a bulb).

Thought I'd share, might be useful for anyone MOTing a post 65 import bus.

These are the LED bulbs I'm using http://www.horizonleds.co.uk/1156-BA15S-P21W-cree/1156-16w-cree-led-bulbs and this is what they look like;

Thanks for info! I prefer my red US spec rear lens and change them over each MOT. I dont like the fact that no-one notices me indicating and I cant see very well to pull out as my nice big mirrors are in the shed in favour of some fashionable small round mirrors :oops:

Yeah, I had the same problem. Recently a car behind me gave me a blast of his horn while I was waiting to turn right, red indicator flashing but they either didn't see it or didn't realise it was a turn signal. Hopefully that won't happen anymore.

I've got a US import 912 with red indicators too, so I'm going to try amber LEDs with them as well. Should work the same, which will mean I have my reverse lights back (currently using the reverse lights as indicators with orange bulbs).

What a top tip this is.

I've been looking for a solution for this problem for ages and bingo, here it is!

Got mine yesterday and fitted them last night and they're fantastic :D

Big up to the Red Lense Mafia :cheers:

Just had mine delivered , absolutely ace.The cool look of all red rear lights and then an amber indicator flashing so the idiot behind knows your turning.
A must for all red rear lights :)
Top tip and thanks for the details :cheers:

What wattage did you use for rear amber indicators.

UK regs say 16w to 36w but I want to use with euro lamps...so I am going with 30w..

so what did you get?
