Test running engine outside bus

Test running engine outside bus

by Haycoxs » Sun Aug 30, 2015 5:15 pm
Hi
I'd like to test run my engine before fitting it to the bus as it's been built by me from a Type 4 longblock and I'd like to find any weaknesses/leaks before it goes in.
Has anyone done this and what do I need to do?
Anyone got a test set up (electrics) local to west mids?
Do u need to fit exhaust headers?
Do I need a proper engine stand?
So many questions - any help would be appreciated
Ta

you will need the exhaust fitting as it would not run smoothly enough. be loud as well. only electrics you would need is a 12v to a starter motor on a bell house fitted over flywheel, earth to engine, 12v to coil, small tank of fuel, and then just touch a wire from small terminal on starter to the positive feed, energising the solenoid and it should run. if you have the timing set up ok.

Thanks DoubleD - I have one but it's catching on the teeth of the flywheel at the mo - need to clearance it a little.
Thanks for the info Rich - was worried it might torque move when started.
What's the best way to wire oil pressure warning light - just a bulb to earth?

i believe if you connect a positive to a bulb and then to the pressure switch. the light should come on. then when engine reaches pressure it will go out. not tried this but think thats how it works.
