Mechanical fuel pump question!

Mechanical fuel pump question!

by OXON TED » Mon Aug 31, 2015 3:41 pm
Am I correct in thinking that if the engine isn't running I shouldn't get petrol through the pump?

At the moment I'm getting fuel through the the pump gravity fed from the tank, found the carb was letting by on the needle valve and filled the sump with petrol.

Took the pump off but no fuel dripping out the bottom.

Sounds like the fuel pump diaphragm has broken. New pump needed and oil flushed out.

I would go electric mate. I cannot trust mechanical, the thought that on way to santapod its gonna fail and dump fuel into your engine, only noticeable when it's lit the light and wrecked your engine. I had 4 fuel pumps leak in succession from GSF so I switched to facet.
