Propex Heater Installers

Propex Heater Installers

by BIG_AB5 » Thu Mar 17, 2016 1:39 pm
Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a propex HS2000 system for our 67 Split. Are there any recommended installers about or has everyone DIY fitted them?

Also what locations have people used? i've seen a few on here fitted to the rear plane underneath the rear seat? Has anyone fitted elsewhere? Such as under the front cab seat in that recess?

any info would be most appreciated :D

There are quite a few installs on here, just do a search.
Most people fit them themselves then get them checked by qualified people.

Easy to fit and there are installarion instructions in the box. You'll probably get a deal at Volksworld coming up shortly.

I've recently has a new Propex HS2211 (external box) fitted by Propex themselves in Ringwood, Hampshire. I wanted a good installation so thought I'd go straight to the manufacturer as they offered the service. It's been a disaster !! I thought the install was very poor and untidy and the system does not produce adequate heat. They brought the ducting into the van via some of the original pipe work whilst my fit out specialists (who were excellent) attached the vents to the furniture.
I've since taken the van back to Propex who were not interested in the lack of performance or any sort of customer service. They were rude and could only blame everyone else for the lack of heat. They refused to try and rectify the problem (maybe no solution) and refused to give any form of refund.
I'm sure there are good installers out there but I would avoid Propex themselves. I question the under slung unit re effectiveness as possibly it looses a lot of heat being outside the van. You need to keep the ducting runs as short as possible and there may also be issues when trying to connect to original pipe work as there may be unseen blockages or changes in the bore may affect how effective the heater is. My heater was bought on their advice that the output could be split - front and back - maybe just focus on the back rather than splitting the power and heat the bus from one vent.

Theres a really good install thread on here, where it is placed in the spare wheel well, heating both front and rear . Can't remember who's it is but it's a great write up/install.

Hi guys thanks for all the replies.

Im planning to buy at one of our local air cooled stores as its 10% off soon

G, thank you I'll have to thoroughly read your Peebles thread next time I'm on a pc as i struggle on the phone to find the right page

Taffy sorry to hear your bad propex experience, I did read it on your other thread when I searched for propex. That's really disappointing service from propex themselves

Pugit, that's the sort of thing I'd love to find on here. Will have to search more in depth when on the pc next

You may struggle to get 10% off as most suppliers don't make a great deal of money if any on selling them, I've tried. Bought an unused 2nd hand one in the end.

That's interesting to know.

Most heater units specify a max length of the ducts. I assume Propex haven't exceeded that on their own install. A van local to me has an inline fan to suck air from the Propex so it can get greater airflow into the van, therefore more heat, as his duct run is long.

I've never seen any type of heater fail to be able to make a van hot when parked up. While driving it can be a different story depending on how many drafts and how fast you drive.

I had my M&E wizard install mine.. only feeding out at the rear....NOT USING VW DUCTS and it gets my van SO HOT..

I would take the complaint the local trading standards as a complaint..
I would enjoy their reply when you demand a refund under fitness for purpose/ poor workmanship
Sounds to me like they are not Propex themselves but operate under a franchise..
Maybe seek a refund direct from Propex...
Under fitness for purpose.
I have seen others investigate putting a fan in line
Bluebird used to sell one?

If you notice I am a member ;) I tried to get discount with Just Kampers but they said they couldn't honour it. C&C's website is shocking and I did order one through them using the 15% pre order show discount. It did seem to go through but I cancelled as got offered the unused one far cheaper. Volksworld discount of 15% is active at the mo ;)

I waited and got 10% off...
I have been waiting to get one for Sherry...and put into my stash...
I also have seen 15% offers and had the suppliers back out by saying they cannot supply because they had no stock..
Strange they had stock the very next day after the offer finished seems like fraud to me..
Even out friendly VW promoter on here David he could not match a price I wanted to buy for...
So I just ignored him and ordered direct from VWH immediately with 10% discount and beat my own price...
He was either ignorant or avoiding the issue..
Sorry Alex but that is the truth..
So seek the best price..
