What carb is this ?

What carb is this ?

I've just bought a carb from eBay that says Solex 12v on the choke but on the side of the body the word solex and vw are missing. Is it a genuine Solex. It has the words vegaser

Vergaser (note correct spelling) is the German for carburettor.
The 118 part of the part number you quote seems odd, more likely to be 113.

Anyone shed some light on this. Don't want to waste any time reconditioning if it's a piece of junk.
Thanks

I'd say no. The lack of a Solex logo cast in to the carb body above where it says 34PICT-3 makes me think that's an aftermarket carb. Someone has fitted it with a genuine Solex automatic choke coil.

I'd hazard a guess that the carb is a Brosol.
