As I don’t have a fuel gauge and was panic filling at every opportunity on the way to Spa I thought I’d calculate what I was getting.
The engine is a 1776 on twin 40 Weber’s, Engle 100 cam and bugpack exhaust (hopefully soon to be vintage volkshaus but that’s another story
). The engine is around 8 months old and now has 1500 miles on it.
I filled up and drove 92 miles (around 80 motorway at an average 60mph) and then filled up again. 12.39L.
If I’m right that works out at 33.7mpg. Does that sound fair for a 1776?

I have 1600 with twin 34’s and recent IRS conversion with AH gearbox.
I have started trying to use a full tank and remember to take photos each time I fill up. I have three calculations 31 / 24 / 26 the variation is mostly down to how low I ran the tank as I wouldn’t want to spoil a holiday running out.
I’ll start doing the same in our bay which has 1700 type 4 with standard gearbox.

As long as your mileage is accurate, ie not relying on a speedo if the tyres are none standard size, then your maths will be correct
