gear shift problem?????

gear shift problem?????

the gears work fine if i lie under the van and use my hand to go through all the gears but as soon as i fit the gear stick 1,3,R, are really stiff and 2,4 i cant select at all any idea????????

Has this come on gradually, or just happened 'over night', or has the bus been taken apart as part of a resto?

If the back end is working as it should, it can only be the way the gear shift is mounted / something wrong in how it fits into the cup of the gear rod underneath.

Have you tried moving the gear shift left to right / back or forward? Have you had the gear shift off, and fitted the plate that gives the reverse lock out upside down?

i cant get 2nd or 4th and ive had the shifter off, which way does the reverse lock out plate go then?

Your mounting bolts aren't too long are they, fouling the shift rod?

if you cant get 2 and 4, you have either split the rubber coupling
or need to move the stick forwards

Good point, just had the very same thing happen to mine...although you wouldn't be able to get reverse either :?
